Tutoring
"My child can't seem to put together a coherent sentence. Forget writing an actual paragraph."
"Getting my child to write is the source of all my gray hairs."
"We seem to be 'stuck'- we've tried many writing programs and it just doesn't seem to be working."
"My child loves to write, but it often rambles, is difficult to follow, and often lacks focus. I'm sure with a little direction, she could establish a strong foundation that she could benefit from for the rest of her life!"
These are only a few comments I've heard and read from parents during my 10+ years as an educator. Ironically, I was one of these reluctant writers as a middle-schooler, so I can truly empathize- both with the student and the parent! Take heart- wherever you find your child on the sliding scale of writing, there is hope! Regardless if you have tried multiple writing programs, or are just now starting to tackle this skills, one-on-one tutoring can be invaluable. Often having their own "cheerleader" and a fresh perspective can help break down barriers and spark a desire to look at writing as something other than grammar and mechanics- but as a way to use voice, style, tone, creativity and fluid thoughts.
Cost~ $35 per week
Most places charge anywhere from $60-$100/ hour with writing tutors often costing more due to the in-depth nature. However, I believe writing is such a crucial skill, that it should be attainable! Thanks to the wonders of technology, we can "meet" from the comfort of our own living rooms and "work" together and keep the costs down. If money is an issue, please do not let this stop you- email me and we can work something out!
What is covered by this "weekly" rate?
I will meet live with your child for 45-60min each week. Parents are, and always will be, welcome to participate as well. This could be a great way to learn new and different ways to assist your child at home.
During our time together, we will review writing your child has done during the week. This will allow me to comment live on what they have done well, help guide them in tweaking their work, and help them develop their technique!
Also during the week, your child can send writings to me and I can comment on it, send it back for more work, etc. I don't want to have to keep up with this extra time and you do not want to have extra money due- which is why I charge per week! It's a flat rate- how easy is that?
How do we meet?
Once you are signed-up and I have received your payment, I will send you a link. All you will need to do is click on it when it is time for our session- and voila-we will be in the same "room" and ready to roll! No matter where you are- at home, at the beach, visiting Grandma- we can still "meet."
When do we meet?
Since I have 2 small children, I do need to schedule around them. Generally, I have several time slots "open" each day- please email me about what times and days work for you. Together I am sure we can find something that works for both of both.
What do you need?
~A computer
~Reliable internet
~Ability to work 1-2 hours outside of our meeting time, on various assignments. This amount will vary for each student and family.
~A working microphone- we will want to chat with each other!
~A desire to learn and do well.

Welcome!
Welcome to my blog where I share about my tutoring options as well as the course that I will offer during the 2010 summer. More details about those can be found in the following posts.
Who am I? First of all, I am child of God, called, saved and covered by His Grace. Next, I am a wife to an amazing man, Al, married since 2000. I am also a mother to two amazing children, Addie and Alden. Thanks to The Potter's School (pottersschool.org) and this tutoring, I am able to stay home with my children. Before I had my children, I was an English teacher for 7.5 years, where I worked with both remedial and gifted middle schoolers. I loved it- and thanks to the online world, I still can! Now the chance to be a part of your family, if you so choose, during the summer months, is exciting!
It is my hope that my enthusiasm for literature and the joy of finding glimmers of God and His amazing Grace in it, will spark a passion for learning in your child and help them cultivate a strong Biblical World View.
